maryrambin: Reader Margaret, thank you for the tip.  This is my favorite so far. Let me make it very clear that I think this t shirt is clever, but my comment is not meant to say I prefer Obama over Hillary.  I don’t think it is appropriate to share political views with people you don’t know, maybe that’s just how I was raised. So it’s no surprise I’m not a fan or a wearer of political ts. Voting is a privilege and we should respect it as such.  If you are swayed by the popularity of a t shirt, I’m scared. No, this isn’t “clever.” It’s sexist and racist. And this is a democracy. Voting ain’t a “privilege.” It’s a right.

this is both mean and stupid by noraleah. the first paragraph of maryrambins post acctually reads:Reader Margaret, thank you for the tip.  This is my favorite so far, it’s silly (when you overlook the sexist part, which ok, is pretty strong, but you should see some of the crap out there).  You would never see me in this t.so she acctually edited a quote from another tumblr so that she could make a point, a point that was already made no less. seriously bad style.
and as long as not every person in this world has the RIGHT to vote, then it’s a PRIVILEGE. i would even say it’s a DUTY, if not to keep democracy working then at least in honour of all the people that gave us the possebility/privilege/right, many times at the cost of their own lives.
edit:  there is ofcourse the possibility that maryrambin edited her posts after noraleah reblogged her posts, in which case i apologise for the accusation, the rest still stands.

update

i have updated the banner, and not only visually (that’s acctually my own writing, no half-ass font) but there’s some new kickass CSS in there too, just move your cursor over the red parts and then tell me what you like my new infomenu :D (if you can’t tell; i’m kinda proud i got this working) (i bet it fucks up in IE, everything does, Firefox 4ever (or until something better shows up))

edit: om nån får för sig att gå in och kolla koden så är den inte så vacker för tillfället, jag ska fixa det, men inte nu

The quote I’m about to post above from The Way We Were pretty much totally expresses my feelings on that subject. I agree with both noraleah and keepinganotebook. As someone who will happily discuss her voting habits with friends and family right down to preferences, I tend to be suspicious of people who see politics as a private matter (in a country where you won’t be shot for your beliefs, like Australia and the US, at least). If you’re proud of your beliefs (hell, if you believe in them) shouldn’t you be willing to stand by them publically? If sex, religion and politics were truly banned from conversation, I don’t know what I’d have left to talk about.

1. yes, yes it is both sexist and racist. it’s from tshirthell.com, they make a living of controversial t-shirts.2. it’s a pretty recent thing that you have to be vocal about your opinions. i have my opinions and sometimes they align with those of a political character, fine, i’ll vote for him/her/it but i see no need to become that characters spokesperson. my opinions are mine, and i air them at my own discretion, that does not mean i belive in them any less.3. noone (as far as i have seen) has banned the subjects from discussion, only stated that they don’t want to discuss it.
(as a non american i only have a vague idea of what the different lines are (hell, the only thing i know is that McCain seems to be a creepy guy and Obama apparently has a grandma in Kenya)(ohh, and Hillary apparently had some kinda big scandal with her husband a couple of years ago (just kidding)) so this does in no way reflect my political views)
